A Failing film maker, a failing marriage and a day of reckoning..A day when all the turmoil in a seemingly normal marriage is at crossroads..
Aditya is a film-maker whose last two films have failed miserably. He is currently working on a script which for him is almost like a final attempt at glory. His failures have created a rift in his relationship with Meneka, his wife. While the marriage is not really on the rocks, Meneka does feel neglected & lonely. Her attempts at understanding Aditya are usually met with a snub. She misses the caring, loving & passionate Aditya for whom she had forfeited her successful modeling career.
ANJAAN is a look at relationship desperately in search of a reason for it’s existence. A relationship that has long been clouded by miscommunication & misunderstanding. What seems to be an innocuously normal day in the life of a bored marital relationship soon turns into an exploration of the psyche of the individuals that inhabit these relationships. The arrival of a stranger, Shoaib, into the house soon turns into an exploration of morality and momentary temptation. A lackluster day in the life of Aditya & Meneka soon turns into a roller coaster ride. The disarming, mysterious Shoaib opens up vistas that were till now taboo for Meneka. He charms her, he angers her & in the process he provokes her innermost thoughts & desires.
The stranger Shoaib, soon becomes a metaphor that reflects Meneka’s state of mind but is about to shake the foundations of an existence that Meneka & Adiya had always taken for granted…
Who is this dangerously charming stranger? Will his presence rock the very instituition that Meneka has been clinging to?and what will Aditya who has been so engrossed in his own professional failures do when he realizes the deception that is about to engulf his personal life?
A metaphorical, seemingly slice of life ‘Marital Thriller’, ANJAAN is a taut, at times humorous, at times evocative, at times thought provoking but seldom verbose look at relationships…shot in a cinema-verite style it is one more attempt to redefine narrative style within the parameters of mainstream Indian cinema.
